Open Circle Theater presents an eerie Valentine to Seattle this year with Stephen Mallatratt's adaptation of Susan Hill's ghost story, The Woman in Black, opening February 12.
This thriller is the story of a solicitor sent to a remote house on the dank English marshes. There he attempts to settle the affairs of its late owner, a shunned old woman. The locals believe the house is cursed, and the initially skeptical young man soon finds himself confronting the grim echoes of its blighted past and the terrible spectre which haunts it.
Directed by J.D. Lloyd, the production features Jesse Lee Keeter as Arthur Kipps and Steven Shields as “Actor.” Opening night is Friday, February 12 and the production runs Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30pm, Sundays at 4:00pm. The show closes Saturday, March 6.
The Woman in Black was first performed at the Theatre-By-the-Sea in Scarborough, England in 1987. The original production received rave reviews, paving the way for future productions throughout the country. It reached the West End in 1989, and has been a major audience pleaser ever since. Its success has subsequently reached global proportions, having spread to the US, South America, Tokyo, and beyond.
